Care and handling
- Storage:
We suggest that the paper be kept
rolled in its plastic sleeve or stored flat between sheets of acid-free
museum or matte board and covered until you are ready to apply it.
- Adhesives:
Use a good quality acid-free or
archival paste. Nori Paste has
given us excellent results. We’ve found gels somewhat more difficult to
work with than the paste. Some customers have alerted us that brown tinted
wallpaper gels have yielded poor results, discoloring the papers.
Avoid rubber cement and other solvent-based adhesives.
- Application:
Begin by “dry-fitting” your paper to your room, trimming and creasing as
necessary. Set the paper aside and apply a thin, even coat of paste to the
walls, smoothing it with a piece of light cardboard used as an applicator.
Take care not to accumulate excess paste in the corners or along the
joints between the walls and either the floor or the ceiling. Place the
paper over the pasted wall and apply light pressure with your fingers to
ensure that it makes good contact with the paste. Position the paper on
the pasted walls. By smoothing or leveling the coat of paste on the wall
prior to application of the paper,
you should avoid the need to force excess paste from behind the
paper. However, if you find it necessary to smooth air bubbles out
of your newly papered walls, protect the printed surface with a thin sheet
of clean wax paper before smoothing gently with the pads of your fingers
or a soft rubber roller or squeegee.
Care should always be taken not to scratch or abrade the printed
surface with a credit card or similar material.
- Cleanup:
Excess paste can be removed by dabbing
gently with a soft, clean damp cloth. Do not rub or scrub the paper so as
not to damage the printed image.
Fingerprints can be removed gently with a “gum” eraser; do not use
plastic, rubber, or “kneaded” erasers.
- Coatings:
A light coat of Fixativ may provide some degree of additional protection
if applied prior to using your paper. We’ve found the following to perform
well with our papers:
- Krylon Clear Satin Finish acrylic spray
- Patricia Nimocks Clear Acrylic Matte
- Krylon Matte
- Milano Protect (alcohol based)
